Since it is December, what is on everyone’s mind at this time of year…..kitchen remodeling design. Ok so it might not be on your mind right now, but once the holidays are over and you have a little time off to think about what happened over the holidays, what are you going to remember? You will think about how tough it was to cook in your too small, no storage kitchen. Or you might daydream about your cousins new, bright, organized and oh so cool kitchen. Either way you will start pondering what you might want to do with your kitchen in 2014. That is where I come in. I want to let you know what will be the hottest new trends for kitchen remodeling design in 2014.
- Dark gray, light gray, medium gray. Gray, while not new, will still be the story in 2014. However the range of grays is wider. There will be varying shades of gray, just as there are now, but the materials will be more varied, from patterned laminates to gray washed woods. You can see examples of this on our website at http://www.teknikadesigngroup.com/kitchenportfolio.py
- White is no longer the brightest starkest white. There will be softer whites, not glossy or shiny, a more mellow vibe.
- Contemporary means rustic. What I like to call contemporary cabin has been in Europe for a few years now and has made its way across the Atlantic to us.
- Pastels as accents. Pantone’s color of the year is radiant orchid http://www.pantone.com/pages/index.aspx?pg=21129, a lavender; Sherwin Williams color for 2014 is Exclusive Plum http://www.sherwin-williams.com another lavender and finally Benjamin Moore has Breath of Fresh Air http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/for-architects-and-designers/breath-of-fresh-air-2014-color-of-the-year, a robin’s egg blue. These can be main colors in the kitchen (cabinets, backsplash or even countertops) but more likely just accents.
Hopefully these predictions for 2014 kitchen remodeling design will give you food for thought as you contemplate what you want your kitchen to be in 2014. Happy New Year from Teknika Design Group www.teknikadesigngroup.com.
