So you have decided you cannot stand your kitchen anymore, you have to renovate. Where do you start your search for kitchen remodeling ideas? My first stop would be www.Houzz.com. This fabulous website has every style imaginable, can be searched in general terms, “kitchens” or even specifics like “small kitchen” (very popular in Philly).
What is also great is that every designer who is a serious businessperson and designer will have a Houzz listing. You want a designer/businessperson to insure they are around from the beginning of the project to the end and even in years to come. As an example of a Houzz site for a local designer Teknika Design Group’s is: http://www.houzz.com/pro/amymeade/teknika-design-group.
Another great thing about Houzz is that you can ask questions about kitchens that you like. Good questions to ask if they are not already listed are: 1. who is the manufacturer of the cabinets, countertops, lighting, appliances, plumbing fixtures etc.; 2. who was the architect or designer. Make sure you start a personal folder of pictures you really like, both the general design as well as any specific items you fall in love with. You can make comments about every picture you put in your ideabook which is a way to find themes as to what you love.
So now that you have spent the requisite hours searching Houzz for kitchen remodeling ideas, now what? Since you are now armed with information on manufacturers and designers it is now time to take the next step…more research. You can go to the manufacture’s website to see more examples of their designs. They will also often have dealers listed in your area. Teknika Design Group is a dealer of Wood-Mode cabinets and the link on their website will take you to Teknika’s homepage, www.teknikadesigngroup.com . Another option is that if you found a designer you liked you can go to their website and probably find more information on their process, products they carry, hours etc.
Now it is time to get off the computer and visit. Go to dealers and designer showrooms in the area that interest you. You will be able to get a feel for the people involved, what their policies are and if their specialties match what you are looking for. Their showrooms will probably give you even more ideas.
Now comes the hard part, starting the process of kitchen remodeling. If you feel you want help in designing your kitchen make appointments to talk with kitchen designers and even architects if you will be doing significant structural changes.
